Lakeside Leisure Centre

Negative experience: I have never had a worse direct debit experience with a business. Lakeside leisure/belgravia will regularly cancel lessons last minute and not apply the fee credit correctly or sometimes at all. They have taken incorrect fees out of my bank account multiple times without my permission, changed the date of direct debits without notifying me, and this week decided to incorrectly take an additional unauthorised amount out of my account without my permission and without telling me. This has not yet been resolved. Some of the front desk staff act like it's a huge inconvenience to do their jobs, and my sons swim instructor on multiple occasions has thrown balls at his head in the pool or hit him on the head repeatedly with a kickboard. When I have raised this with the pool nothing has been done.

Negative experience: You would think that now the government owns this centre, things would have higher standards. This place is INFESTED WITH COCKROACHES EVERYWHERE! They live in the gutter and their bodies litter the floor. The main pool heater doesn't work so the teens lessons have to go to the kids waist height pool. The place is disgusting

Negative experience: The pool is cold as ice, has been for weeks hear same old story waiting for parts, no discount or to be able to put membership on hold as I've pre paid I loose out ,they have my money so they don't give a rat's, toilets showers out of order, ring of body oil around pool that rarely gets a scrub, membership gone up twice this year so has coffee at kiosk, quite often showers are cold, try and put membership on hold if you're not feeling well and have pre paid !!! more drama again, was once a great place I should know I've been going there for 30 years but things have changed so much greed takes over and people don't matter

Negative experience: Normally my fav Canberra pool - but these days the pool heater has stopped working… there’s no signs; no discount, no info. Along with the leaking toilets and leaking showers and sometines cold showers…. I guess management is not interested in spending the money??? More and better Communication would be appreciated

Negative experience: Swimming lesson was cancelled today. We were not informed of the cancellation. 5 minutes into the lesson a teacher hadn't shown up, so I questioned a staff member who was standing nearby. He told us the lessons had been cancelled but reception hadn't got around to calling everyone yet. No one at reception told us the lesson was cancelled when we came into the pool, the pool was set up with signs as if the lesson was going ahead. Very disappointed with the communication. The staff member then walked away, ignoring the other two families waiting for the lesson, so I had to tell them the lesson was cancelled.

Negative experience: Significant membership price hike with new owners. Unreasonable!

Negative experience: Just a quick thought about your booking system — asking for 3 days’ notice feels a little over the top, especially when the pool only allows 12 people max. It’s like guarding an empty dance floor when the DJ is ready to go! Sometimes people get the urge for a swim last minute (especially after hours when it’s quiet), and being told “no” just feels like a wasted opportunity. Customers want to dive in, you want revenue — seems like a win-win if same-day or even 24-hour bookings were allowed when space is clearly free. Otherwise, it’s a bit of a Julia Roberts moment from Pretty Woman: “Big mistake. Huge.”

Negative experience: I understand there are booking rules in place, but it was disappointing to be turned away when the pool was completely empty. A more flexible approach — perhaps looking at things on a case-by-case basis or showing how many spots are left — would make a big difference. It’s unlikely a session would suddenly fill up in the last hour, and being more accommodating could really encourage more people to use and enjoy the facilities. Hopefully management can take this on board, as it would make the centre much more welcoming for the community.

Negative experience: I would like to share my concerns regarding my recent experience with my son’s swimming lessons. I attempted to suspend his classes for 6 weeks through the Active World app, but unfortunately, it seems the suspension did not go through, and I was still charged. This was very frustrating as I was under the impression that the request had been successfully submitted. On top of that, his swimming lessons were frequently cancelled, often with very late notice. This has made it extremely difficult to plan around and has been very disappointing for both myself and my son. To make matters worse, the staff at the reception area do not make any effort to help when issues are raised, which only adds to the frustration. Because of these ongoing issues, I have now decided to cancel our membership and enrol elsewhere. Sadly, I cannot recommend this place and would advise others to stay away.

Negative experience: Horrible experience since Active World took over. My child’s class was cancelled more than 7 times, with three times that they did not communicate with us. We arriving to an empty pool. You would think that one or two times, yes people forget - where is the reflection and creating a better process? Staff seem not caring or didn’t know how to help. Not recommended!

Fantastic experience: I have been a member more than 2 decades using the light excise regulator. Made lot of long lasting friends and helpful staff and canteen staff

Negative experience: Edit:instead of communicating with me they cancelled my childs lessons! GO ELSEWHERE! Advertises family change rooms but it's actually 1 disability toilet. Pools ok but other facilities are not good. I heard this place had an upgrade but after visiting I can't see anything upgraded. Tried contacting about some concerns around swimming lessons but never heard back. Edit: I did contact the pool again and still haven't heard back lol Dodgy contracts and zero customer service

Positive experience: The exercise pool is not warm enough as it was supposed ti be heated pool. Took my parents there every second day for exercise and they complained it too cold for them and want warmer water. Please have the water warmer please.

Positive experience: Lakeside Leisure Centre is a favourite destination all year round. A friend comes from Sydney with her daughter's and I take my granddaughters. We love it. The cafe needs better management so we bring our own food.

Negative experience: Dirty place, half the facilities aren't working and haven't worked for over 6 months (aka showers and sauna). Cockroaches everywhere. Cancelled my membership to have them say it takes 30 days to process but they email me the next day to ask why I'm cancelling. They will also charge me for a whole month...

Positive experience: I have only just started going to this place . An my son has only just started swimming lessons. I have found the staff there extremely friendly and helpful. An I like to think I have started making new friends. I would like to thank One regular member there . Who went out of there way to help my son with a new pair of swimming googles ..

Fantastic experience: Staff welcoming. Georgia patiently ordered me a taxi to get home. Pool staff very professional and helpful. Well cared for facility.

Positive experience: Good place to come after gym. Relax your muscles and mind. Unfortunately steaming room not working again :( and would be better if water could be warmer.

Negative experience: I have swim here for 31 years. The service is getting worse. The sauna is a myth. I came all the way from Queanbeyan to use the sauna and then swim. But, lately it isn't working. I've tried to call the centre to check whether the sauna is working. The weekends service is terrible. Because, the telephone is automated to the bot. So, I don't know if the sauna is working or not. The service is so bad. I shouldn't give 1 star for rating . If the rating gave half of the star. I would give half star out of 5.

Positive experience: Wish the water temperature a little bit higher, the sauna has not been working for some time. The change room and the shower room could be cleaner

Fantastic experience: When I fall into the WARM water and start my rehabilitation exercises it's like an instant healing experience. Let alone a lovely warm wash off in great bathroom facilities for disabled and able bodied alike!

Positive experience: The pools are fine in my opinion, BUT the change room shower cubicles are bad… It wouldn’t cost much to drill in some coat hooks (so people can hang up their bag and towel etc.). I’d give 5 stars if it wasn’t for the showers.

Negative experience: My child’s class commences at 3:30pm and every week the instructor arrives late and the class doesn’t begin to start until 3:40pm. Given the class is only scheduled to run for 30minutes my child and the other children are getting short changed on their learning time. If I were you I’d go else for lessons, we are.

Negative experience: Lovely olympic-sized pool. Often the lanes are occupied by diverse groups, leaving few lanes for the public. The showers in the female changeroom need urgent repair since years, nothing was done by the former administrators, nor seem the new administrators want to repair these showers. Overall the place is quite dirty.

Negative experience: New management hey... The facilities are still filthy, cockroaches are everywhere. The cafe area is dirty. The male swim instructor in Lane 8 on weeknights is incredibly rude to everyone, including the kids in his class. How he gets away with it I have no idea. Everywhere you look there is something that needs repairing. Surely management can do better than this? Very disappointing.

Positive experience: Good decent pool. Great to bring the family, there is a specific play area for kids, or just come for a lap. I mainly go for the Aqua class and the steam room (need to fix the showers outside of it though). There is also a gym, fitness classes, and various clubs associated with swimming here.

Negative experience: At 2pm there were no hot chips for the kids and the chicken nuggets on offer were $1 each. The outside waterplay area was closed despite the hot day. I should have gone to the Stromlo leisure centre!

Positive experience: Great pool, super friendly staff and lifeguards. They have a hoist and water wheelchair. Only down fall are the bathrooms are generally very dirty.

Positive experience: Great community club with a reasonable price. Gym is pretty small but swimming pool is alright. Family safe place and friendly staff make it a nice place to work out or have a dip. I would be a lot happier if the water was warmer (just a personal preference) but well, it is what it is.

Fantastic experience: Just wanted to share how great the staff are at this venue, I work in disability in the region and have been bringing clients to this pool for some months now. The way staff hold themself with my clients in and around the pool should not go unnoticed.

Fantastic experience: Really loved going here to work out at the gym and go for a swim! Had my swimming lessons here. Teachers were very friendly and helpful!

Positive experience: GREAT place with large pools and friendly staff. BUT.... Please make the water in the 'Gentle Exercise' pool warmer!! ?? ....25m indoor leisure pool (heated). ...no...just off cold..... Most of us left early today as it was just too cold to stay....we want to exercise but cannot if so cool. Us oldies would like to use your facilities to exercise 'gently' but how??? Thank you! Fantastic experience: Great pool, squad takes up alot of lanes but apparently I'm not fat enough to take up all lanes. Apparently I only get one lane to swim in

Fantastic experience: Clean well setup with separate spaces for different activities. A cute water play ground for kids, a shallower pool for less assertive swimmers and a separate pool for those who wish to do laps.

Fantastic experience: Incredibly clean, very convenient location, plenty of parking good pool, good sauna, good gym - and, very importantly, nice and helpful staff

Fantastic experience: Good place for a casual swim or take the kids to burn of energy. There is an outside water play area they can run around in, or shallow pool area. The cafe seems to be shut most of the time so cant comment on it.

Positive experience: Difficult to get a lane for laps on weeknights - for example tonight Thurs 30 March there are 12 lanes being used for swim squads, 2 for learn to swim classes and only 2 left for public use/lap swimmers. However, my kids enjoy their swimming lessons here, and the YMCA swim school teachers are excellent.

Positive experience: I've been coming to Lakeside since it first opened, I love the place, and am very appreciative of the many staff I have come across during that time. Everyone has nearly always been friendly and polite and the facility plays a very important part in my life. I have provided the odd feedback over the years on the cleanliness of the place, especially on issues with the men's change room. Over time I can see that the cleanliness has improved and I am very aware of your active and visible efforts with cleaning. However, is there something more that could be done about the stench from the men's urinal, a more permanent cleaning product or solution perhaps? It is a problem.

Negative experience: Trainer Angla is worse trainer in Tuggeranong pool. Most of the time during training class She wastes the time in talking to any parent, eating her fries and drinking her drink or discussing with kids unnecessary things in 30 minutes class. Most of the times she starts 3 to 4 minutes late and finishes 3 to 4 minutes early (that span of time she wouldn’t be in the water). I never saw her in the pool more than half of herself ( she doesn’t go fully inside the water). Most of the time She just stand on one spot of the pool and doesn’t know that kids are moving their arms and legs in right way or a wrong. There are couple of other trainers who does the same things but bit less then Angla. Mr Neil is the best trainer and Miss Jess as well.

Negative experience: Don’t buy a multi-pass, they expire them after a few months. I’m feeling very ripped off…

Positive experience: Lockers often don't work. Staff friendly. A clean facility but they need to pay more attention to ensuring soap dispensers are filled in the showers.

Fantastic experience: It's old venue but the staff are very friendly, especially in the cafe. They have very nice swimming teachers too. The location is in the heart of Tuggeranong, near the parks, shopping centres etc

Positive experience: Great place for a swim, especially if you want to do laps.

Fantastic experience: Nice place for a swim. Compared to other pools in town, it is pretty clean and the front desk staff are really nice! I go as apart of a booked session with a sports club (the water polo) for the most part, and we love the place. But even on my own, it's a great place for a swim or a work-out.

Fantastic experience: Renovations to pools, gym and facility is a huge improvement and cafeteria staff Adam always friendly and makes a great cuppa and bacon and egg roll. Front desk staff Kara and Emily always helpful and friendly. :)

Negative experience: Dirtiest pool in Canberra

Negative experience: Mistakenly left some stuff there, they just pretend they going to check but never heard back from them. Very unhappy with lost and found system. When called they said they are too busy to go and check.

Negative experience: Every thing is good except staff of front ends & manager lack of information no updates for staff because off we suffered and we pay lots money without using any facility of center also manager don’t care they not gonna investigate instead of investigation they said you don’t have any proof do you....in this point just wanna ask what for security camera install all over center ....

Positive experience: The lakeside leisure centre in Tuggeranong is an excellent pool for children and adults alike it offers a wide range of activities and food, aswell as multiple swimming lesson groups for children and teens and adults of all ages It also hosts occasional water polo games and water polo teams for those who are trying to learn a new water based sport or practice pre-existing skills

Negative experience: Staff ignore you when you complain about total lack of following policy in gym for towel use and wiping down machines.

Negative experience: Unsafe for adults and for kids. Lifeguards asleep while on duty !!!! You pay a full price for a swim and seven adults get 5m length restricted part of a single lane. This is not a swimming pool just for kids, it is meant to be shared by everyone. Swimming teachers are not teaching kids pool manners and to share pool with everyone. Swimming teacher, one of them was extremely rude - six weeks education basic course level and he thinks he is an authority to be rude. The staff and management should visit other pools and see how it should be managed. If the kid was drowning today, it would have drowned because lifeguards are staring into the ceiling instead of taking care what is happening. Poor service, money hungry and disrespectful

Negative experience: Someone called Caroline and her supervisor Casey will not allow any changes in swimming lessons whatsoever. Someone like me with anxiety and panic attacks who has medical certificate and need to change swimming lessons but they don’t allow it so obviously racist and abuse of power here. Before them my kids been going for swimming lessons for years with multiple cancellations and medical certificates but now they’re in charge and no way. Please sack this horrible people who have no compassion or empathy whatsoever.

Negative experience: Inflatable booked for my daughters 9th birthday party, turned up at 10 and told too much chlorine added so I'd have to cancel it. The pool opened at 7am......... With 20+ kids arriving at 11am that was not posible. Supervisor was not helpful and needs training. Overall a very poor experience. Be careful booking your kids party's here. I've also not rebooked our 2 kids swimming lessons due to it.

Fantastic experience: This is one of the best swimming pools in Canberra, the administration, children swim training, cafe, gymnasium and cleaning staff are excellent. It’s very difficult dealing with the public with their different and difficult attitudes these days, and they’re certainly not racist as the previous person mentioned. That’s a terrible thing to say about anybody at the pool, they do their very best to accommodate everyone, so Victoria I’m expecting an apology from you please?

Fantastic experience: 10/10 would love to come back it was awesome was nice i liked the brown bath bomb in the spa but it must of been old because it didn't work also in the kid pool there was a baby that was facing down but came back up it looked happy the best part was the cafe except a rat stole my wallet

Positive experience: Friendly staff and clean water but a little bit annoyed about the amount of rules with diving but that's just there for your safety.

Positive experience: I just wish they had a pool for just adults (at a shallower depth for light exercise) at same temp as the lap pool. Or even another lap pool as more then half the lap pool lanes were taken up by training. Wish they didn't do training on weekends. I am pregnant so I need a place where I can do light exercises to keep myself healthy. The lap pool temp was wonderful and all I could stand. For some reason I felt faint when I got near the other pool (may be too hot for my current situation lol).

Positive experience: Great that they have outside water play, shallow water pool and lap pool. Water was a comfortable temperature for such a hot afternoon. Really busy before 5 pm but nice after dinner if you want a quieter visit. Nice to not have to put sunscreen on!!

Fantastic experience: Big swimming area and caters for kids and adults. The pools are usually clean and the outside area is good.

Fantastic experience: Clean pool, good lifeguards and good lap swimming facilities. Change rooms are decent and the steam room is a nice place to relax sore muscles after a swim. Nice windows so you can see outside and not too hot and humid indoors. Temperature is always good in the pool.

Positive experience: The aqua classes are terrific, however the recent nearly doubling of charges for Seniors is appalling, particularly when the government should be promoting heathy activities.

Positive experience: Friendly staff at reception. Lovely warm pool with exercise lane that i used for my post op. Showers nice and hot with heaters in the change rooms. Reasonable prices also. I will return.

Negative experience: If I could give them minus stars I would. The service there is appalling, they contact cps over lies, they don’t get back to you about important matters when they say they will and they don’t give you back the money they take out of your account. If you want cps contacted about you hurting your kids even though it is a lie go right ahead and go there
