Fantastic experience: Best gym in Sydney! Obsessed - Elouise helped me sign up and she’s my fairy godmother of fitness, super informative with what classes would suit my needs.

Negative experience: Some of my belongings went missing, as 90% of the lockers are broken. It’s unacceptable at any gym, but particularly irritating when they’re charging premium rates.

Fantastic experience: We met with Eloise to sign my friend up and she was so friendly and sweet, really helped us feel comfortable there. Signing up was so chill and easy with her ☺️

Negative experience: Read the other 1 star reviews to get the real picture of how they run their business. I signed up for a 'week trial', dropped in to cancel (as they request you do it in person) was turned away as their only person working in the venue was busy. Emailed, received confirmation and was still charged over $160.

I’ve continued to be charged despite cancelling well over a month ago with emails and phone numbers not manned. Happy to remove this review and update once I’m refunded, just frustrating a review has to be made publicly to sort this!

Positive experience: Cool vibe!!!! It can be very packed during the busy hours but that means you can be motivated by other people! The ground floor has weight lifting stuff and the top floor has lots of cardio machines and more weight lifting stuff. In between, rooms for classes I think. Good selection of the machines and again very cool vibe so I feel like I am cool when I exercise here.

Fantastic experience: I actually have never wanted to leave a review more than this one. For anyone looking for their next gym I am SHOOK with how remarkable this company is. Forget assuming FF is your only option, this company makes FF seem so archaic in its clubs but also how they run things. The attention to detail One Playground offers for the priceeeeeeeeee omfg it’s insane. I’m a Bondi girl and ready to shlep all the way to Haymarket & Surry Hills to enjoy the brand new equipment, lush bathroom amenities and bespoke individual gyms. I’m still on my free trial but I have to be honest, the way I was treated in terms of customer service by Ollie from Surry Hills was what sealed my division to become a member. I have done customer service for 23 years and my goddddddd it disgusting the service we receive these days so experiencing this lovely man’s warmth, kindness, understanding to my finances, friendliness- One Playground however you’ve trained your staff it’s beyond! Ladies, forget this overpriced gyms around the East, this one has me floored! Xoxoxo

Negative experience: got bad experience today at one playground surry hills by one of their PT (chloe) we used one station and place our belongings over there and quick grab something from another place and when we came back she standing and asked us to leave . so rudeeee . she even didnt ask polite . whoever used the station they free to do their stuff whatever time they want . gonna appreciate if she asked nicely . . As a personal trainer and gym staff, you should know the proper etiquette and rules during a workout. If a machine is still in use, you shouldn’t take over or tell someone to move elsewhere , not even asking if we have finished or not even not say sorry , thats how badly they threat people to others member whom not their client .

Negative experience: LACK OF TRANSPARENCY IN FEES DISCLOSURE I visited one of the branches recently to sign up for a membership and unfortunately had a disappointing experience. Before attending, I asked several times whether there were any fees beyond the membership cost. I was assured multiple times that the only fee would be the membership itself. However, after completing all the required paperwork at the gym, I was suddenly informed of an additional access card fee — originally quoted at $99, later reduced to $49 (non-refundable). This was not mentioned at any point beforehand, despite my direct questions. The fee was only brought up at the payment stage, after my time had already been spent and personal information submitted. While I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE staff not have been fully informed, this kind of last-minute disclosure left a poor impression and made the process feel unclear and unprofessional. Additionally: • I waited nearly an hour for something that should have taken a few minutes. • Staff were engaged in extended, non-work-related conversations while I waited. • A $49 access card fee was applied despite being told there wouldn’t be one. To be clear, I’m simply sharing my personal experience and observations. I hope management will review how information about fees and processes is communicated to ensure all future customers can make informed decisions before committing time or details.

Negative experience: They told me that if you're more than 10-15km away, you can Cancel Your Membership, and I register to practice at Surry Hills, but for studying reasons, I have to go back to Manly how Surry Hills About 15km. I have written a request for cancel Membership twice but they still do not agree I did not participate in the training session since that day. They deducted my money every 2 weeks, except for my account many times. I wrote this article to pay attention to everyone about the way of working of this facility

Fantastic experience: This is the best gym network I have been a member of in the last 20 years. The Surry Hills gym is great. Getting the Urban Oasis access as part of the package is a BIG win. If you are considering membership and will use the gym, classes and sauna, it is a very good deal. You can't compare the cost to Plus or Anytime because it is comparing apples with pears. Most Sauna's charge you for one visit the same cost One Playground charges for the whole week!!

Negative experience: Been going for years but lately is impossible to book any classes or even use the gym facilities. Always overpack!! And the worst part is that somehow is never clean. Is a shame because I use to loved training there but not anymore. I even cancel my pt sessions because I was paying to not been able to use the machines.

Positive experience: I came here expecting a free trial class as advertised on the website, but unfortunately had a very poor experience. I took time out of a busy work day, only to be pressured for over 30 minutes to sign up for a membership and hand over credit card details — before I even had the chance to try a class. The "free class" offer felt like a bait-and-switch. Disappointing and not a good first impression. I’d recommend others be cautious and not assume the advertised trial is actually honoured. Update – July 2025: I decided to give One Playground another try, and I’m really glad I did. Originally I wanted to join because it looked fun, modern, and different to your typical gym. A friend encouraged me to try a different location, so I visited the Newtown branch — and Kareim and the team truly turned my experience around. From the moment we spoke, I felt genuinely respected and heard. Kareim, the club manager, was super helpful. He honoured what I thought I was getting from the start and made me feel truly welcome. It really spoke to the culture of the club and creating a great experience for members. I’m really glad I gave it another shot - because now that I’ve trained at the gym, I can honestly say - their facilities are amazing - super clean, modern, and thoughtfully designed. The machines are top quality. And the layout really reflects the name One Playground – it’s a fresh and fun space to work out in. I’m keen to explore more of what they offer.

Fantastic experience: I’ve just started going here, the staff are amazing always go the extra mile! Especially Asia, she ran me over to a reformer class on my first day because I was so lost and it was about to close at the studio a short walk away! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed getting used to gym in the morning and the instructors enthusiasm makes it easier. So glad I joined. It’s helped me get back to my activity levels that I’ve been wanting for a while!

Fantastic experience: If you're looking for a gym that will change your life, you're in the right place. I have been coming daily since I arrived in Sydney and it has been a real community, which has become family to me. The coaches ( especially Steph, Hannah, Jose or Angela.. ) are incredibly professional, as well as beautiful people. I can say that after living in over 10 different countries, this is the best gym I have ever been to: extraordinary classes, great facilities, amazing professionals. Thank you for helping me achieve a better version of myself, forever thankful!

Fantastic experience: Great gym but too many betas that don’t know how to put weights away.

Positive experience: Guys, I love the gym and the classes but today’s “infrared” class was not good at all. I understand that life happens and substitute coaches can step in every now and then but they should be trained on how to use the tools? Today was not infrared or music on which made it awkward. We are booking classes and get charged if cancelling last minute but you guys should take ownership of mistakes on your side as well.

Fantastic experience: Recently visited the facilities and immediately knew this would be the place for me. Such a great location and the staff immediately made me feel comfortable in the environment. I’ve been looking for a gym that I can stay focused and active at, but also know that there is fun to be had and a community to join. Asia gave me a tour; she had all of the information I was looking for and really made me feel like the whole place was my kind of vibe; she’s super affable and (like me) energetic. I can’t wait to get started on the classes!

Negative experience: Where do I start? I signed up at the beginning for both classes and gym. I kept getting messages from Emily following up on my enquiry even though I had already signed up and had been going to the gym for 4 months. I sent a message requesting to stop contacting me, I spoke to the reception team in person and they said they removed me from those messages I even called Emily and spoke with her over the phone to tell her to stop contacting me. STILL, I kept getting those messages didn't stop until I called them again angry complaining. They overcharged me 3 times. When I stopped taking classes and do just gym they charged me for both I called and sent a requested to cancel the classes membership. When I spoke to someone over the phone they said it was reserved and apologised for the error. Two weeks later I get charged again! I called Newtown Gym and they mentioned they didn't receive my cancellation request! A few months later I was travelling my membership was frozen for a little bit and they charged me for it! When I called and made a complaint to the staff, it was Emily again in Marrickville she was so rude and unhelpful! Zero customer service they need to be retrained again! I was a frustrated customer! In such situations, they need to keep being composed and calm! How can you speak in an angry tone with clients? Another issue is that staff always use the gym lockers! They have their own staff space, they are not meant to use these lockrs. A friend of mine made a complaint they said they would address it. Nothing happened!! Also, there were a few instances when I was showering at the gym and noticed that the Body Wash, Shampoo and Conditioner bottles ALL had body wash in them!! Idk if the staff were too lazy to change it or add proper shampoo and conditioner or if they ran out of it and didn't get a new one! However, having a shampoo and conditioner is a bare minimum for any gym!!!

Fantastic experience: Had a great experience at Surry Hulls today thanks to Shehan. He’s an absolute legend, super helpful, enthusiastic, and brings such a positive energy to the space. You can tell he genuinely cares about the members and goes out of his way to make sure everyone feels looked after. Positive experience: I love this place. I have had membership for 4 months. They have the various of classes and the PT in here always listen and well-arrange the sections, which are suitable for my health. The downside that is the Pilates classes are always full and it's quite hard to booo

Fantastic experience: Reformer pilates at Newtown was a challenging workout but that's what I wanted. Felt good after class. The best thing was the mirrors on the ceiling which I haven't seen before. Made it easier and added to the atmosphere. Relaxed atmosphere. Recommend.

It’s the real deal - the instructors are kind, the culture is welcoming and personal, and the price point is outrageously good. I don’t think there is another gym in Sydney where you can get so much for so little. A++

Fantastic experience: I must say I really enjoyed this gym during my extended time in Sydney! They offered me a PT consultation and the gym has plenty of machines/areas to workout in. One of my favorites was the push path in addition to the turf area! I would love to visit this gym again. Totally recommend it to anyone in the area or commuting in to the CBD!

Positive experience: Great gym overall. Like any other gym, it gets busy between 5pm -7pm. Waited a good 15 minutes for a machine and a PT interrupted after my first set and requested to jump in. We don’t interrupt PT during their session with clients, would much appreciated if they can do the same.

Fantastic experience: I love this gym. I have been using the space for around 8 months now and have never had any issues. The staff are all lovely people and the community of other gym-goers are very friendly. The interior is very appealing and clean and there is a great variety of equipment. It closed a few times for maintenance but when it did, the access card is allowed to be used at a nearby, equally as great, gym!

Negative experience: Easy to join they keep calling you to join. When I fill the cancellation form month a go nobody call me or updated me. Just got messages I owe them money. If you wana leave lady staff will keep trying to make you stay. They can make you uncomfortable and pressured too. Offer me 1 more month free. Sometime we don’t need freebies just cancelling will be enough for us. Sam was amazing he didn’t put pressure on me.

Fantastic experience: One Playground is without a doubt one of the best gyms I've been to, in terms of facilities, class schedule and service! Negative experience: The classes are great but they book out so quickly. My reason for the low review is the gym floor. It’s quite small, dark and not very motivating. I’ve gone to much cheaper gyms (anytime) that have a gym floor that is spacious and motivating. This is also a petty point but you can hear weights thumping on the roof of the “mind body room”, which is meant to be a peaceful space. It’s just not worth the money.

Negative experience: bad customer service where the guy who sit in the office can't do anything done, from swipe card and looking for lost item in the lost and found drawers. the men's toilet also dirty and stinky af, I can see lot of dust in every corners where clearly they didn't hired cleaner to do the job properly.

Fantastic experience: Very comprehensive training facility for people of all different levels (beginner to pros) & modalities as well (bodybuilder to crossfitter). The design and aesthetic is beautiful as well which is a great plus point for our social media era.

Positive experience: I’ve been a member for about a month, this gym is really small inside, it feels really overcrowded especially after work hours. it can feel overwhelming. but it’s got all the equipment and the classes are really good. i was curious about a personal trainer at the beginning of my membership, my warning to you is never bring up private lessons unless you truly want it, they give me phone calls constantly questioning if i’m still interested and what my goals are and why i’m no longer interested, i just blocked their number and anyone who introduces themself from the gym i just hang up. there’s no car park and the parking around is paid only for a limited time. recommend catching train.

Always clean , Any broken equipment gets fixed immediately, friendly staff and I also love the fact it’s not flood lit like airport arrivals hall . The people who use it are pretty cool too . Fantastic experience: One attribute about One Playground that I love, is that it offers value for money to its members. I appreciate the effort where the OP team sees the importance to invest in areas that would bring value to its members. Firstly, OP breaks the norm in offering great aesthetics and design to how a gym should look like, the gym offers well-maintained equipment, quality fitness classes by really good instructors (I regularly attend spin, barre, bodyburn, dance/burlesque, yoga, reformers pilates and do a jog on the treadmill and have mentally and physically benefitted from the great classes), which differentiates the gym from the rest, seamless app booking experience and on top of that, amazing branding through its physical gym and online presence. To me it’s a whole great experience being part of OP. Everyday at 12pm, l would set my alarm to book my work out for the next 3 days, plan my outfit, when I arrive before my workout, I would take nice photos of myself with the aesthetically appealing interiors, and after working out, I would also take some feel good photos to post on social media to track my achievements and progress. I believe that the OP's business model works and would continue to grow beyond Sydney and around the world!

Fantastic experience: Had the best time training in this centre! Zoe the gym manager took a lot of time and effort in encouraging me to commit to a program and was excellent, she would check in on myself and I'd also always see her in the gym itself training! I got linked with Sam as my PT and he's been excellent with injury recovery especially in bringing out weak/compensatory mechanisms and correcting them. Unfortunately I had to cancel my membership as I was moving away but would definitely get day passes to visit the gym when I'm in Sydney! Overall - excellent team, enjoyable and challenging classes, good facilities, would 100% recommend!

Fantastic experience: A well rounded gym for all types of training that caters for all people that would like to improve their physical and mental well being. The trainers are positive and supportive and help to create a great inclusive atmosphere.

Fantastic experience: One Playground is such a versatile and engaging gym!! I love the range of classes and equipment, how welcoming the staff are, and how the trainers and group fitness have a great balance of pushing and challenging you but also being mindful that everyone is coming in at different levels. I especially love the quality of the Reformer Pilates classes (shoutout to Maggie Dixon-Best and Jay!!) and how the Athletica Fit classes are never the same but always fun and super challenging. This has been the gym I’ve stuck with the longest and has really helped me to feel inspired to stick with my fitness and wellness journey.

Negative experience: I used to be a member and tried to rejoin the club but I’m quite turn off by their approach to sales. I have asked for the prices over the phone explaining that I used to be a member and just want to know the price to rejoin the club. Got told that I would get a brochure sent to my email but got an email from the club manager asking me to visit the club. All I want is the price and I also can’t come during business hours as explained. This is actually my second attempt to get the price in the last 2 months and I still don’t have that information.

Negative experience: Went to a class there through class pass. Received an email telling me I'll be charged for a no show despite attending. Then told I need to fill in forms within 48 hours or I'll be charged. Others who are members also complained during class that their app doesn't work and wouldn't let them book in. Suggest you think about approach before demanding fees from paying customers who attend your classes.
