Fantastic experience: Super chill small-ish gym. Ample equipment to get the job done incl deadlift platforms, squat racks, benches, preacher stand. Most of the time there's only a few people in there at once, and everyone's polite and keeps to themselves--no dude-bros strutting around grunting and trying to get people to look at them. The owners are very friendly and easygoing and they're around most of the time during the week. I hate gym music but the playlist here is way more tolerable than my last gym and is a very reasonable volume so you don't leave with a headache. In summary, the gym is quiet and secret and I am absolutely shooting myself in the foot by writing a positive review because I would rather it stay that way!

Fantastic experience: A nice small gym. Very friendly staff. Has all the usual cardio and weight equipments. Perfect for my personal goals. Gets busy after work during the week but quite otherwise. I haven't tried their classes but they do have spin, pilates, group training, etc.

Fantastic experience: Joined this gym about a month ago and it’s been great! The staff and patrons are super friendly. I’ve never been a group class training person but @137 has converted me. The instructors are welcoming, attentive and motivating for any experience level. I particularly like the effort instructors have made to accomodate different levels of strength and mobility with alternate variations of workouts within the class. The gym floor is well equipped for weight training and I’m never waiting long for a machines. Gym is also clean which is great. This gym has a lovely personable vibe about it and I’m stoked to have signed up!

Fantastic experience: The first gym I've ever been to that made me actually look forward to going. Great community, amazing atmosphere, new equipment, and the best class offerings I've ever experienced; I noticed amazing physical and mental results just by going to the classes. The coaches care about every person's fitness journey and help and encourage them to push themselves - massive shoutout to coaches Lachie and Silas! Very sad to be moving on, but this is the best gym in the innerwest hands down.

Fantastic experience: When I moved to Marrickville I was wondering where I could train comfortably, close to home, with all the essentials required. Ruben's came up, I went and tried out for a test day and signed up straight away. I was on the 'lift only' membership and it was a beauty! Unlimited gym access, 24/7. The staff is also super friendly and helpful too. Sadly I am moving states so I wont be attending anymore.

The combination of classes (boxing, core, spin, sfx), friendliness and energy of the trainers, and relaxed environment was perfect for me. Fantastic experience: I have been attending gyms for over 30 years and At Rubens ranks in my top experiences. I am not a class type person and have been attending some here. I have found the staff professional, knowledgeable and friendly. I have found the gym friendly and welcoming to all, with no cliquey vibes to contend with. No issues with equipment availability or functionality. Thanks to everyone (staff and gym users) for creating a welcoming and inclusive space.

Fantastic experience: I never really went to a gym before so wasn’t sure what to expect and it’s been fantastic. Super welcoming and friendly vibe, all the instructors I’ve had (Lu, Sandy, Silas, Lachlan, and Ruben) have been great, and the atmosphere is really warm and low-key. I’ve since tried another gym when I was traveling interstate and it made me appreciate this one so much! I think they’ve really managed to create a special atmosphere. The classes often include people with a wide range of experience and it’s pretty easy to make them as challenging (or not) as you want.

Fantastic experience: I spent 3 years going to At Ruben's, leaving the happiest and healthiest I have been in my adult life. Ruben and his team are magnificent. They've created a welcoming and positive atmosphere in which you can thrive. Lachie's tips, training and support were excellent throughout. The facilities are superb and there is a strong and genuine community feel. Thank you for everything!

I am an older client and I have enjoyed excellent Personal Training that has educated and encouraged me and good Sports Massages that have aided in eliminating chronic back spasms and other issues. I would highly recommend this Gym to anyone.

Great mix of classes or if you just want to do free weights in the open plan set up. My wife who has always been hesitant to go to a gym loves it.

Fantastic experience: I’ve really enjoyed the Personal Training sessions at Ruben’s. PT was individualised and well tailored to help meet my goals. I didn’t take advantage of the classes as they didn’t fit around my chaotic shifts & training patterns. All the staff are friendly and approachable- and you’ll no doubt meet the warm, friendly, but very energetic Ruben himself as he’s always in there running a class, doing a PT session or just manning the stations . The warehouse style gym has has a no pressure vibe… excellent for both people well into training or thinking about making those first daunting moves to becoming healthier.

Fantastic experience: At Ruben’s is probably the best gym experience I’ve had, everyone is SO lovely and knowledgeable. I never felt comfortable going to gyms, especially as a woman I was very intimidated but spending time at Ruben’s has been great. The small group personal training has been an amazing and affordable way to better understand my mobility and work closely with trainers on strength and equipment use. The community is wonderful and I especially love the diversity in ages which makes everyone feel super comfortable

Fantastic experience: No idea what the clown below is talking about, NO ONE is in this gym wearing anything religious or Pro Muslim, that's just crap!!, this a REAL gym with REAL equipment and I've only ever seen people dedicated and training hard, many women train there and are respected. Terry & Co. run a top notch gym and I've always enjoyed training there and will do for many years to come as I have in the past 4yrs. If you want girly backpacks and skinny Lycra clad plastic people everywhere, this place is not for you, normal to serious people train here even many in their 70's! Everyone has a great time and the staff are the best I have experienced at any gym.

Fantastic experience: I was quite apprehensive and self conscious about training and @Rubens has been the perfect fit for me. There is no judgement and there are people of all different levels of fitness working together. Ruben has been motivating and encouraging and made me feel at home from day one. I do PT and have trained with Silas and Ruben and could not speak highly enough of both of them. Their knowledge and dedication is unquestionable and they have motivated me to improve my overall fitness and health whilst also having fun. I 100% recommend @Rubens to anyone wanting a positive change in their health and fitness!

LOL The time slots really worked for me, so you end up training With allot of the same people, so it becomes like having a PT w your bestys. I loved SFX, POUND FOR POUND (boxing) & PILATES. Fantastic experience: Fab gym with super staff. Before joining Ruben’s, I never really enjoyed my gym experiences and rarely stuck with them. The classes at Ruben’s are fun and motivating. All instructors want you to do your personal best and push you to improve - in a really supportive way. It’s such a friendly place, not intimidating at all. Fantastic experience: Quit my previous gym (big chain) during the lockdown and the thought of dealing with a slimy gym salesman turned me off. Wife and I took the plunge and joined Ruben’s as we wanted to get fit and motivated again and boy am I mightily impressed. Super friendly and energetic gym that welcomes you from day one, everyone in there looks like they’re having a good time even though it was clear they worked really hard. No posers or grunters, super clean place, wide open floor, and super friendly staff (who kept pushing you to work harder than you think possible). Classes are amazing and they motivate you to go as hard as you can. Playlist is brilliant too. I’m never a morning person, but I am actually looking forward to go in the mornings now, and gym never feels like a chore but felt like part of the day, just like breakfast. Fantastic experience: I joined after the first CoVid lockdown. Being 70, I found other gyms loud and obtrusive. There are a variety of classes I can do, as well as more challenging ones for the younger set. The staff are genuinely friendly and amiable. I will continue as a member and Ng as I can.

Fantastic experience: My wife and I are visiting Sydney for two weeks and we're spending ten days in Marrickville. My wife found @ Ruben's for me as they offer a $30/week full access trial pass. I applied (with full disclosure that I'm only here temporarily) and had such a great sign up process with a lovely staff member over the phone. They were completely okay with me joining for seven days at that great price. Since then I've been every day doing boxing classes, most at 545am and also at 930am. I've trained under Sandi, Mandy, Ruben and Silas. All the coaches are awesome and super friendly and encouraging. I love the atmosphere of the gym, real community feel, no fancy stuff, just good equipment, good bag area and lovely people. We're falling in love with Marrickville and @ Ruben's has been a great part of my stay. Highly recommended A+++

Fantastic experience: The absolute best gym I’ve ever been to. Have been going here with a friend for over a year. So accommodating when the pandemic hit and just wonderful classes and instructors. The place has such a great, non-judgemental, just do your thing, vibe. I used to hate feeling like I needed to be perfect to even sign up to other gyms. At Ruben’s everyone is welcome. The friendliness doesn’t just stop with the great, passionate, loveable staff. The other gym members have been just as fabulous. It’s not just fitness and health at Ruben’s but an entire community. A big thank you to the whole team, and Ruben in particular, for all the fun times.

No issues with equipment availability, gym equipment is clean and functional, no gym snobs, friendly trainers and atmosphere, Ruben is a lovely owner and has time when you need it. Fantastic experience: Used this gym whilst my gym was still closed for Covid. Great equipment (bars especially), highly free weight based which is a positive. Friendly staff (favourite being Ruby) who were very welcoming and kept the facility very clean. Although I didn’t try any classes there seemed to be a wide variety, and I was pleased to see that the owner, Ruben, is an integral part of the gym, teaching classes and being on the floor. I would recommend this gym to anyone and I would have signed up if I didn’t already work at a gym and get free access.

Fantastic experience: When my partner and I were looking to move back to the Inner West last year and he showed me apartments that weren’t within walking distance, my response was ‘...but... but... Ruben’s?’. When returning to your old gym, you question, ‘will it be the same!?’...It’s better. All the things I loved remained- the phenomenal instructors, the feeling of community, the great facilities with zero pretentiousness, awesome classes - and now, even more of them! Everyone is incredibly encouraging and the instructors really know the boundaries when it comes to pushing you beyond your perceived limitations of yourself, without putting you at risk of injury. I couldn’t speak more highly of this place!

Excellent selection of classes, at various times of the day (appreciated as a Hospitality worker who isn’t sure what 6am is!) Great equipment and guidance on how to use it all, with hygiene and cleanliness clearly a top priority.

Fantastic experience: The thing I love most about @Ruben’s is that it doesn’t feel like a typical gym at all. You’re not walking into a simulated nightclub with a competitive vibe and pushy salespeople. You’re walking into a community of friendly people of all ages, sizes and fitness levels having a go and having fun. It reflects the Marrickville community as a whole – diverse, accepting and unpretentious. And the team is WONDERFUL. They know everyone by name, work their butts off and have an infectious enthusiasm. I recommend personal training sessions because it’s personalised and I learned so much. Tegan is the best!

Fantastic experience: Absolutely awesome gym. Location is great - just on the way to Marrickville Metro. Parking is easy - making it super convenient. Coffee shops around each of the corners. Class timetable is suitable for when you're working and even if you're not working and want some later classes. Staff are amazing! Ruben is really personable and makes the gym a great place to visit. Favourite classes for me are boxing, cycle, hard circuit and kettle bells. Could not recommend this place enough. Not pretentious, great mix of people coming in which makes the early mornings easier to attend :-) I love my fitness and find you can make it work for your goals. Fantastic experience: I never thought of myself as a gym person. I like my lounge too much, however, three years ago all that changed. I decided to pop in and check out what was happening inside my local gym. I met Ruben and straight away had a great feeling about him and his business. We got chatting and like a ninja he signed me up. I rocked up the next morning for a spin class (thinking who am I). I had a great time; even if it did almost kill me. I stuck at it, and it got easier, and now the going to the gym is part of who I am. I don’t think I would have persevered if it wasn’t for Ruben and his fantastic team. The feeling of family at Ruben’s makes the early mornings so much easier. I highly recommended checking out what @Ruben’s has to offer!

Fantastic experience: Whilst the gym I normally go to remained shut even after COVID restrictions on gyms were lifted, I decided to check out Ruben’s after a recommendation from a friend. I went to a few classes conducted by a series of different trainers including Ruben, which were enjoyably challenging. The gym facilities are fantastic, heaps of great equipment and plenty of space. I was super impressed with how clean Ruben and his team keep the gym, and not to mention they were all super lovely and welcoming. Will definitely be recommending this gym to my friends and hope to return soon.

Fantastic experience: I've trained mostly with Ruben, Sandy, Lachie and Tegan and they're all a bunch of legends (shout out to Lachie for adding Missy Elliot and Timbaland to his playlist - real MVP). They mix up their classes frequently so it's always challenging and you learn something new every week. The gym is always clean, which I love because I've been to some gross ones, and it has everything you need equipment-wise if you're not into classes. Classes cover everything from cardio to strength to flexibility and mobility (Spin Bikes, Boxing, SFX, Yoga, Pilates etc) and the trainers don't slack off either. Membership is affordable too. You can go to any class as many times as you want plus have access to the gym and you don't need to sell an organ to do so.

Fantastic experience: The staff @Rubens are fantastic and make this gym great. They are always friendly, helpful and extremely knowledgeable. Since becoming a member I’ve met some wonderful locals and made some great friends. Being a member of Ruben’s is like having an extended family... it was one of the things I missed during lockdown. The classes are fun, upbeat and challenging. @Rubens is a fabulous gym.

Negative experience: I had an interview with Ruben about 4 weeks ago as he was looking for a sports massage therapist. He contacted me as I had applied for the job and agreed to have a chat on Tuesday... I was there at time and he was late about 45 min without letting me know he is running late ... the interview was good and we agreed to go to the second stage ( practical assessment ) and he would love to have a massage session with me. We decided to be on Thursday at 10:30 am. On Thursday, at 10:25 am I was parking my car next to his gym, but I had a call from him that telling me he is with his kids at home and trying to reach his wife but can’t. Personally, I totally understand his situation as a father .. but .. as a manager of business he should contact me earlier to show some respect of other people’s time. He ended his call with telling me I will call you back.... now its almost 4 weeks and I haven’t received a call or even a text message. I’m writing my experience just to tell people who will apply for a job or want to join his gym.

Fantastic experience: You know your're walking into a good gym when you feel the energy immediately. All staff and trainers are well mannered and always smiling and are well educated when it comes to exercise and training. Gym is spacious and always space to train what you like. Great local gym !!

Fantastic experience: @Rubens is an awesome local independent gym and health centre. My husband and I love being a member here not only because of the great variety of classes but also because of the size, variety of equipment and abundance of natural light and air (important!). Also Ruben, the owner is a passionate health & fitness guru and such an awesome leader for his team of trainers and fitness experts. Love supporting local owners doing what they are passionate about and sharing their expertise with the community for the betterment of all.

Fantastic experience: This gym has helped me to transform my life. I have been a member for 3 years and the thing I LOVE about the entire team @Rubens is that I was as supported, encouraged, challenged and welcomed on my first day (when I could barely make it through a beginner’s yoga class) as I am today (when I can smash out a boxing class and do some extra training afterwards). @Rubens truly is a gym for EVERYONE. All shapes, all sizes, all fitness levels coming together to share laughter and energy as we improve our health. It feels more like a community centre than a gym – and that is a culture that has been consciously fostered by Ruben and his incredible team. The other tip I would offer is give personal training a try. I was always against personal training. For many years I had thought, “Why would I pay someone just to make me turn up? I know what I have to do – I just need to do it”. What I didn’t realise then is that PT is so much more than someone making you accountable for turning up. With personal training you get a tailored program to suit your goals, you get professional expertise to correct form and avoid/manage injuries and you get VARIETY! A trainer has the ability to introduce you to so many different movements and exercises that it never gets boring. I can honestly say that training twice a week with Tegan @Rubens has changed my life. The physical changes have been fantastic: I’ve lost 20kg and kept it off for 18 months. When I started I could barely do step ups onto a box and got out of breath walking on the treadmill. Now I can do 20 “on toes” push ups in a row, I can do box jumps, burpees, I can run 7km and I can deadlift 100kg. But the biggest gains I have made working with Tegan have been psychological. I now use exercise to manage stress. I have learnt the joy of challenging myself, failing and challenging myself again. I have gained the confidence to get out of my comfort zone both within the gym and outside of it. And all the time I have had the most amazing coach in my corner: supporting me, pushing me, challenging my assumptions, picking me up when I needed it, giving me a kick in the backside when I needed it, celebrating my victories and sharing lots of laughter and wisdom along the way. Fantastic experience: Thankyou @Rubens, I always feel welcome here. The staff are professional, down to earth, kind and very, very good at their jobs. I have enjoyed excellent classes with Tegan, Ruben and Lachlan. @Rubens is a small gym with enough machines so you dont have to wait. Always clean. For the introvert- they have group classes with all solo exercises here so if (like me) you prefer not to pair up, its a win here. Its more expensive than some gyms but for me its worth it as a treat. I drive 4 suburbs past a lot of other gyms to come here, I highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: I love At Ruben's! I don't say this lightly as I've never been a fan of gyms but Ruben and the team are amazing! All the classes are great and I have at least 1 of each in my weekly routine. The PT sessions with Tegan are great as she takes the time to understand what my goals are and then pushes me when I need to. The recent introduction of HIIT sessions with Baz are a hit with me! A smaller group session allowing me to focus on my boxing technique with a professional trainer breaks up the larger class sessions. But mostly it's simply the people. Both members and trainers. It's like a family that genuinely cares for your well being. You know you want to join up! :-)

The team have created a fantastic culture and environment that makes you feel very welcome. Of all the gyms I've been to, this is by far the best!

Fantastic experience: One of the most welcoming gyms I have ever been to. Really relaxed vibe I love the variety of classes on offer as well. Boxing and SFX classes are my favourite. The trainers are genuinely friendly and approachable, and great at what they do. Feels like you are part of a family when you sign up with this gym!

Fantastic experience: What the hell was I doing before I came to this place? After two session with Lachlan I went from 40kg deadlift to 120kg. He never once asked what I wanted and told me what I needed. Strongly recommend this smart young gentleman whose workout program really challenges and has you working to your potential.

Fantastic experience: I absolutely loved my time @Rubens and I was so sad to cancel my membership due to moving interstate. I first joined @Rubens while I was recovering from a traumatic injury all of the staff especially my personal trainer Lachlan were very helpful and accommodating. I live in Lewisham and I have got a gym within 2 minutes walking distance of my house, but I was never really motivated to go as many times a week as I go now to At Rubens (which is 2 kilometers from my house). My friend and I were looking for boxingclasses on google, and that is when we found At Ruben's. We decided to take a free boxingclass to see if we liked it. It was so great we signed up for this gym the day after! Next to boxing you can enjoy other classes like SFX, spinning and yoga, which are all great classes with amazing ambitious trainers. If you rather want to work out on your own with weights, this gym has all the equipment for a good workout. They also offer sportmassages. When you sign up you get a free 30 minute massage, and I really felt that massage helped me. I have been going to many gyms over the past 6 years, but never liked one more than this one, so you will not regret signing up to this gym!

Fantastic experience: I have always disliked the typical gym atmosphere...but @Ruben’s I felt comfortable and welcome from the very first moment I walked in. The group classes are great! There is no feeling of competition or judgement regarding your fitness level. Everyone of all ages and sizes is treated the same at this gym!(the way it should be). Fantastic experience: Went from hating every gym I'd ever joined, and just using gyms to walk on a treadmill, to being actually excited about attending! All the trainers, in particular Ruben, Teagan and Lachlan are so attentive and helpful, everyone is always willing to help you, and I've never felt lost or awkward there! So happy I found this amazing, friendly gym with a great atmosphere.

Fantastic experience: Love this place, so inviting and friendly especially to the gym newbie like me! The yoga classes are amazing, with a great space to clear the mind. Fantastic experience: I’ve never really been into gyms before but since joining At Ruben’s almost 2 years ago, I wouldn’t be able to live without coming almost every day now… Staff and members alike are friendly and know you by your name. The trainers are competent and the varied classes (cardio, strength, fitness, boxing, yoga, personal training, etc.) are of high quality and always offer different exercises. You’re working out in a clean and fresh environment where you don’t have to wait to use the equipment and where the ratio men/women is probably around 50/50 with people of different fitness levels, ages and background. On top of that, regular various workshops, events and social gathering are organised and you can even refuel with great coffee and fresh fruits provided by the owner. You’re not just a number At Ruben’s, you feel like you’re a valued individual and you’re part of a community. Coming here, you will definitely improve, get better, sweat and reach your goals while having fun and making friends. I would recommend At Ruben’s Health and Fitness gym to everyone!
