Fantastic experience: I really enjoy this gym. Heaps of equipment, which is being updated. Shehan is always super helpful anytime I have questions on technique or using the equipment.

Fantastic experience: Personally, this is my favourite gym of all I have been to. Nowhere else will you find a pendulum squat, hack squat, calisthenics rings and a great sauna in one place while being so cheap Noteworthy: there are only stairs into the gym for anyone requiring ramps etc, unfortunately it’s not easily accessible

Fantastic experience: Awesome equipment, fantastic staff, toasty sauna. Couldn’t ask for anything else… except maybe a killer physique but that’s coming.

Negative experience: The Gym doesn’t have heating in winter and chooses not to turn on the air con in summer. If you request that air con be turned on, the staff would refuse and say “it’s an old building so air con won’t work and it is an “open air gym” and everyone there knows it is open air gym”. If you asked “what open air gym?” The staff would say “like the ones in Thailand” “But I didn’t know it’s an open air gym. Now it’s really hot”. “Everyone knows! “you’ve been with the gym for so long so you know this is the case. And you are on the CHEAPEST membership!” “It’s won’t be safe to train in the heat. What do you do on those hot days, it can feel like 40degrees inside” “Melbourne is never that hot!” The staff is quick to become very defensive when given constructive feedback (evident in other reviews and the staff’s responses). Due to this and the lack of air con I stopped going long before I terminated my membership. After barely going for six months I called them to terminate my membership (I had to call multiple times as no one would pick up my call. An email is not guaranteed a reply either as my request to suspend membership had been ignored before) I was hoping that the waiting period could be waived as I’m also moving (my old gym in Syd was so kind to waive my notice period when I moved so I thought I might try my luck). It was a no, as they don’t handle billing themselves. I said it’s not quite fair that full amount be charged when the gym doesn’t even have a cooling system and I could never go before dark in summer. Was it even safe?. The staff became defensive again said it was safe without cooling and gave the old arguments again. So the takeaway is, if you have an extra $5/ week for a better gym in Fitzroy that has heating/cooling/better equipment/updated bathroom/better customer service/non-aggressive staff, consider trying other gyms in the area.

Negative experience: Had a terrible experience with this gym. Price was high and the facility was not great. A lot of equipments are old and not working properly. Moreover, one of the staff (Shehan) had really aggressive and rude attitude towards the me when I provided a feedback, in which the fault was on the gym's casual staff for giving me a false advice regarding the fee and payments (I was charged for 5 payments instead of 4 like the casual staff advised). Instead of holding himself and his staff accountable, Shehan was constantly shouting and being aggressive towards me. Never visiting this gym again.

Fantastic experience: Good range of equipment 7 day pass + fob was $60, not bad for short stay in the area

Fantastic experience: Awesome old school gym with some amazing equipment. I checked it out because I'm going to be moving to the area soon and this is going to be my new church.

Positive experience: Gonna be honest for the price you pay this gym is alright. There is decent equipment and it’s 24/7 with a sauna. However it gets incredibly hot during the summer and the overall sanitation of the gym is not great. The buildup of mould and scum in the showers leads me to believe it is not well maintained. This is a big let down as showering should make you feel clean not dirty. The owner is lovely and super friendly.

Fantastic experience: Been going for roughly six months and can’t recommend it enough. Everything you need in a gym plus an unreal sauna. Very friendly owner too!

Fantastic experience: Solid place to train, plenty of equipment, and good value. Recently upgraded some equipment, and did a deep clean which was due.

Fantastic experience: Overall great! Has everything you need (cardio, free weights, machines, plyo). Easy to sign up for a day pass and staff are really friendly. Couldn't find a cheaper day pass in the area. Has a few racks and areas to deadlift. Lots of fans and the temp was pretty good. Not too crowded. As far as complaints go, there aren't many. I did trip more than once on the elevation change going towards the locker room. Some bright tape or paint would really help on those sloped rubber mats. Some equipment is pretty well used, but it's manageable. The setup for weights near the deadlift platform was odd, just a bunch of 15 kg plates, so I had to steal some heavier plates from a nearby rack that luckily wasn't being used. Came here twice while visiting. I'd recommend it.

Fantastic experience: I love this gym, been here for a couple of months. Use of space is optimal, ample equipment, many multi-purpose machines as well so I’ve never felt I need to wait in line for anything. Staff are incredible and always welcoming. Also so impressed by how well it is maintained.

Fantastic experience: Great vibe, always warm & welcoming as soon as you walk in from Shehan & Luke. New owner Ryan has been very quick in making himself known, getting some new pieces of equipment moved in, and always asking for feedback. Excellent place to train for all levels, would recommend highly!

Fantastic experience: Fell in love instantly with the gym! A great mix of mostly new but a few old school pieces of equipment. Lots of space, scorching hot saunas, safe and clean while in the heart of Fitzroy! $15 casual entry, there is a reason Fitzroy Gym has survived the test of time!

Positive experience: Good gym, it’s got cardio area, machines, benches, free weights and even a Crossfit section. It’s pretty spacious and not fancy like popular fitness centers.

Fantastic experience: I can honestly say that this is the best gym that I have been a member of. Perfect mix of old and new equipment. Beautiful old warehouse feel with really high ceilings and heaps of natural light. Sauna great for post workout too. You will not find a better gym for the price in this area.

Fantastic experience: A gym area is spacious, and one of the rooms such as has good ventilation and natural light! Sauna is my most favorite part. The sauna here has the controller next to its door, so you can set your ideal temperature and even enjoy löyly (poring water and making hot steam in sauna).

Negative experience: This is place is, generally speaking, cool. Generally cool people come here. It has old equipment, cranky showers, a tiny sauna, too much ventilation on one room and not nearly enough in the other. They trick you into coming here offering a free trial by email, but when you arrive they suddenly decide you have to pay for the day. Cool, thanks.

Fantastic experience: Best gym I’ve ever joined. If I wasn’t moving south of the river I would have stayed for years. If you like training legs this is the place to be. Great vibe and community too.

Fantastic experience: I have been a member for this gym for almost 2 years now with no plans to move on or chance any time soon. The gym floor is a decent size and with a variety of free weights, machines and and racks etc.. - not to mention plenty of plated weights throughout. Further adding to the positivity of the gym are the staff who are friendly and approachable.

Negative experience: Half the machines are extremely old and the space is oddly set up. Don’t recommend.

Negative experience: I agree with many of the 1 star reviews here that trying to finish your contract is a nightmare. I was being hounded by debt collectors for months despite not having used the gym in over 2 years. As a female it's also not the best choice in the area. Far more female friendly gyms to choose from. Can not recommend.

Negative experience: I was a member here for many years and really liked it. I used to recommend this place to people in the area. However i got an injury. My boyfriend went in instead and transferred the account to his name. After a few months I wanted to get another membership for myself as I was ready to start training again. We went inside, no one was at the counter. We pressed the bell and waited for 10min. After no staff appeared to be present we proceeded to work out. I fully intended to pay when staff arrived. Later on a guy confronted me saying he worked there. I explained that we had been waiting at the front and that no one had been there. Instead of allowing us to get another membership he started arguing with us and accussed us of trying to sneak in and not follow the signs (which apparently had a phone number but i hadnt seen that). I paid the entry fee instead as he was being so rude and aggressive I wasn't sure if I wanted to sign up for an additional membership anymore. He then continued to argue and yell at us. We were planning on continuing the work out but he was yelling at us and following us down the gym floor. We decided to leave as he was being so aggressive and yelling at the top of his voice. He proceeded to yell and follow us out the exit and down the stairs while screaming at us. This was the worst customer service experience of my life. In no situation is it appropriate to yell at people and literally chase them out a door. This person is insane. Not sure if he was drug/roid affected or if this is his natural presentation. Instead of is paying for an extra membership we now plan on cancelling the other one as well. I have lived in fitzroy for years and will now be recommending for everyone i know to avoid this place. This could have been avoided if the staff had had some basic manners and not acted like violent aggressive thugs.

Negative experience: Avoid this gym, terrible experience when finishing contract. It’s now 3 months after cancelling in writing and still getting charged. Owner is a nightmare to deal with. Unfortunately it seems like a common experience. Will have to lodge chargeback with my credit card to resolve.

Fantastic experience: Been going here for 5+ years and I confidently say it's in the greatest condition it has ever been in. Friendly new management, new state of the art equipment, and an optimised layout. Whether you are interested in cardio or strength training, this gym has it all and caters to all fitness levels from beginners to the most experienced. Oh and there's a sauna too!

Fantastic experience: Great gym, good atmosphere, friendly and great trainers. Just started at Fitzroy Gym and love it. Plenty of room for floor work as well as the machines and free weights. Even when a lot of people in there are enough machines so there are always options. Open 24/7 so can train at my convenience (need to be a member to train outside staffed hours). Staff super friendly, supportive and knowlegable. Give them a try, plenty of payment options.

Fantastic experience: A medium-size, no frills, non-pretentious, grassroots community gym with kind and supportive staff who don't treat their members like a number, rather, like family. Impeccably clean facilities and amenities with a quality assortment of old, but mostly modern machines and weights, as well as some crossfit equipment. The bathroom signs are quaint and super retro, but I absolutely love them. The key word here is QUALITY over quantity and that's the reason I come to this independent gym over anywhere else. Props to Shehane, Mel, Andy and the rest of the crew for running a tight ship.

Fantastic experience: Superb Gym! I've been a member for 12 years and the place keeps on getting better by the year. The recent renovation has taken this gym to the next level. With massive floor space and state of the art equipment this gym satifies all age groups and experience levels. There is no wait time on equipment either because there is so much of it. The staff are great! They are really helpful and welcoming which gives the gym a great vibe. Cant recommend this place enough.

Fantastic experience: Best gym I've been to. If you're serious about training this place has it all. Most of their equipment is hammer strength and there are so many options particularly for legs. I loved every minute of training here. There's also a sauna which is an absolute god send after those gruelling squat days. The owners are lovely and super approachable. They went out of their way to help me both in and outside of the gym. Can't speak highly enough of this place. Absolute winner!

Negative experience: Tried to cancel my membership after moving house.tried calling everyday for weeks with no response. Took them over two months to respond to emails. they still made me pay for a further 4 weeks of membership before cancelling the membership. Bunch of crooks

Positive experience: The staff are very friendly and is quite cheap, but the machines are very, very basic, with a lot of them not working. Free weights and bands seem to get stolen quite often so you can't rely the equipment will be there next time. One thing to consider: you must pay a deposit for the "key" when you sign up, and they will tell you that you can claim it back if you cancel your membership, but if you pass the first month mark, you won't get your deposit back.

Fantastic experience: I've been a member since 2017 and never have I thought about changing gyms. Good location in the heart of Fitzroy. As far as value for money goes, you can't beat it. A very welcoming community of gym-goers, which is great for beginners who may feel intimidated initially. All the equipment you need, and open 24/7 which works for any schedule. Super flexible in terms of pausing/renewing contracts. Would highly recommend.
