Fantastic experience: Best gym in Adelaide with great gym equipment, Good cafe and food. Only problem is car parking. 200 car parks which some selfish so called members decide to park there all day from 7.30am onwards, not use the facility and then walk into the city to work/uni/RAH staff. This then stops members genuinely using the facility to find a car park especially 9-11am. Many times I’ve driven around the car park countless times, unable to find a car park then gone home. Have complained numerous times to management. All they need to do is put a security guard in the car park every week day morning for an hour, to stop this practice of all day parking. They keep promising a new system with time limit monitoring but it still hasn’t happened. Please do something about people parking all day at NG! Thank you

Negative experience: Next Generation only care about making money, not customer service. Requesting to swap something out of a Poke bowl due to an allergy and replace it with something of the same cost is not an option, instead you must pay extra for less. Most of the facilities are dated which is shocking given the astronomical membership fees.

Fantastic experience: I recently rejoined Next Generation, Adelaide aftet a 20 year break. It's central location & availability of pools were the initial draw cards as I was struggling to find a pool open during Winter at the times I require. After phoning them I went in immediately & joined up. Their customer service was excellent, well informed, professional & friendly, thank you Samantha The pool is well maintained & not crowded. I've since used the spin cycle & gym equipment, all of which were high quality. Highly recommended, thank you. B Williams
Negative experience: I have been a member of next generation for 20 years, and the only reason I remain a member is to use the squash courts. Despite repeated requests to keep the courts swept and cleaned they remain a disgrace. We swept 3 weeks ago, but there was nothing to collect up all the dirt and dust so we put in a front corner and asked the staff to remove it. Of course the maintenance staff informed us it was not their responsibility. Full stop. Clearly informing the cleaning supervisor had no impact either, as there it remains!!
Fantastic experience: Gym is excellent. All facilities are always kept to a great standards. Everything is always in amazing condition. Staff are always helpful and care about customers. Special shout out to Brett who is ways there to help out
Negative experience: Welcome to the gym that redefines guilt, gaslight, get over it — all wrapped in the aesthetic of live, laugh, love, but with more dust and disappointment. Here, “upgrades” mean replacing a $12 handle attachment while the machine it’s screwed into hasn’t seen innovation since your parents were doing jazzercise. Promises of renovations to this historic site have become folklore — whispered about for years with no shovel, no high-vis, just gracefully aging members clinging to hope and handrails. Membership fees? Astronomical. Vibes? Subterranean. Saturdays? A full-contact sport, thanks to feral children running wild and taking out shins like tiny linebackers. I, however, remain committed to this disco disaster purely out of convenience — much like how I stayed with my toxic ex way past the expiration date, convinced I could change him. Spoiler: I couldn’t. And just like then, I’m hurting myself in the process. 5 stars for comedic value. 1 for fitness. Unmatched for character development

Fantastic experience: I’ve been taking tennis lessons at Next Gen Memorial Drive for years. Coach Joel’s positive energy keeps every lesson fun, yet he never stops pushing me toward continuous improvement. Luke Smith and the academy team foster a relaxed, supportive vibe. The courts are pristine and the whole facility feels world-class. The café crew—Chris, Gabi and Maria—are always welcoming, and the reception staff are just as friendly. Top-notch coaching, great people, superb facilities. Highly recommended.

Fantastic experience: I have been a member of Next Gen since a young kid (well over 15 years), a true testament to the facilities and staff. In particular the entire tennis program, which is run to the most upmost professional standards, and which has produced numerous top tier players over the years. The world class tennis courts and facility, accompanied by incredible coaches from the Peter Smith Tennis Academy, and subsequent players make tennis at Memorial Drive + PSTA a truly awesome and memorable experience. Would give 10 stars if there was the option!

Fantastic experience: I don’t usually write reviews but thought it was necessary given the latest ones. I have been coming here for nearly ten years, and I have to say the facilities and staff are absolutely world class. I mean that quite literally as the coaches train world class players, along with the Adelaide International being held here. The hard and grass courts are always in perfect condition, and there’s a plethora of courts to choose from. Not to mention the stunning setting next to Adelaide Oval with the outdoor pool. I started coming here as a total beginner, and through Luke, Josh and Joel's amazing group sessions and private lessons, I have become by all accounts a competent club player. They cater to all levels of skill by having a deep understanding of the game, but more importantly a great care for their clients. I have always felt incredibly well included and cared for, even when I was presumably frustrating to coach as a beginner :). It’s extremely easy to see how much they love the sport as it comes through in each training session. I have played at numerous clubs around the world, and I feel we are extremely fortunate to have world class coaches and facilities like this in Adelaide. It's not surprising the sort of people who would complain about this setup... I would highly recommend for anyone in Adelaide who is looking for a fun environment at beginner or advanced level, to join the club and utilise the incredible coaches and facilities.

Fantastic experience: have been shown the best technical advice for my groundstrokes. Very friendly, understanding coaches, that could help my level of play. As a beginner this can be intimidating, but two coaches by the names of Luke and Joel helped me feel comfortable straight away. I understand this is a world class establishment, and so when i see negative reviews, I tend to look at the person writing them, as though there might be something wrong with that person, because I have only had positive experiences here, along with my friends and their children.

Negative experience: I would like to share my disappointing experience with Next Generation Club. Although the facilities are generally well-equipped, my overall experience was unfortunately overshadowed by poor customer service and a lack of professionalism. I was particularly concerned by a phone call I received from a member of staff, during which I felt I was spoken to in a passive-aggressive tone and treated unfairly. I tried to explain my situation and the reason for my attendance at a tennis session, but I felt dismissed and judged rather than heard and supported. This left me feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome at the club. Moreover, I believe some of the communication around class bookings and fees lacked transparency. I had no intention of attending any paid group sessions without knowing they carried an extra charge, and yet I was booked into classes without my clear consent or understanding. I value transparency and respectful treatment as a paying member, and unfortunately, I did not feel that these expectations were met. Despite this, both my wife and I decided to cancel our memberships. However, we were still charged 30% of the remaining fees, with no consideration for the circumstances or for basic consumer rights. It was disappointing to see that these concerns were not taken into account. I hope that the club takes this feedback seriously and improves its communication with members, particularly when dealing with misunderstandings or concerns. Every member deserves to be treated with respect, fairness, and honesty.

Negative experience: Very poor quality of children tennis club, coaches are young and immature plus lazy , almost done no coaches just let kids to play bythemselves, stay away as they only wants to be paid for doing nothing

Fantastic experience: I am thoroughly enjoying going to the Next Generation Gym. Everyone has been so welcoming. The facilities are outstanding. I love the range of classes and the instructors are so supportive and passionate. It suits me perfectly to have classes available during the day, not just the traditional morning and evening. Thank you to all who have made my transition back to the gym so positive. It really is a lifestyle club as it has so much to offer.

Fantastic experience: Visited Next Gen Memorial Drive on a recent trip to Adelaide as we are members at the Melbourne Next Gen and was very impressed. Great facilities including squash courts and the staff are friendly and very helpful. The members lounge is also very comfortable and relaxing. Thank you.

Negative experience: Over 159000 of my clients and friend have now made a joke of Adelaide most advanced gym. The floor gym is a laugh, and all the best Gym instructor’s have left. The Guy of Platinum level areas are so unhygienic and one of the most advanced regeneration areas is below 1st world class. Perhaps TheCorporate Management of Sydney and Melbourne are the reason why International Cricket and Tennis will no longer allow world class athletes to visit Adelaide. As an Australian. institute of Sport. I have refused to allow My Coaches or Athletes to enter the Unhygienic Altitude chamber or Gold Class areas. The manager of next Generation gyms is no longer welcome at any Institution of sport, as the owner is not welcome at any of my facilities, or restaurants world wide.
Negative experience: I was a Gold member at Next Gen for a year and a half, and my experience was extremely disappointing. While some yoga and Zumba classes were decent, the overall facilities and service were terrible. • Toilet doors have been broken for over a year without being fixed. • The gym equipment is very old and poorly maintained, making workouts frustrating. • Drinking water facilities have been out of order for more than six months, and despite multiple complaints, they were never repaired. • I raised several complaints about these issues but received no response. Instead of addressing the problems, they canceled my membership without my consent. • After multiple attempts to contact them, they finally agreed to partially refund my membership. However, after that, I never heard from them again—no emails, no calls. For such an expensive gym, their customer service and facility maintenance are shockingly poor. I would never recommend Next Gen to anyone looking for a high-quality fitness experience.
Positive experience: Dent food and drinks, the issue is with service; it’s slow. The servers seem pleasant but a bit sad.
Positive experience: I have been a member for 12 years and love many aspects - the pools, the cafe (service always friendly and helpful, coffee delicious), but my complaints are mainly about the classes and these are run haphazardly. The app is not kept up to date with who is presenting the class - there are some GREAT trainers but also some inexperienced and boring ones - the equipment is dated - pump equipment is ancient, no knee pads or good mats, most of the Les Mills trainers have left - next gen seems to have trouble retaining staff! I've been to other next gens around the country and except for its excellent position and already in place facilities, Adelaide next gen seems like a poor cousin!

Fantastic experience: I have been members almost 20 years and yes I have encountered very few rude, selfish and unpleasant people. However they eventually get reported by many members and have noticed they have been either warned or removed. There have been once one unfriendly and bossy staff working at the front but she did not last long either. Only times I regret are the times I didn't suspend membership for myself or my parents who don't speak much English when we did not get to use facilities for upto 2 months as sometimes illness/injury or post surgical rehabilitation duration is not clear cut to start with or we get too occupied initially and the condition drags on longer than expected so didn't end up suspending hoping to go back sooner like 4th week, wishful thinking!! But can't back date .However, I feel so relaxed as I enter next gen and most people are very reasonably friendly and nice. New manager was very approachable and friendly to talk to.
Negative experience: I’ve been a member of this gym club for more than three years. I’d give this gym a negative review based on the worst experience and bad culture I’ve experienced. Very ironically they wanted to promote a diversified club culture however I was abused by an old guy at the gym verbally and the management didn’t take any actions at all even no further investigation or warning. That old guy was rude and unacceptable and used all the F and c words every time I came across him at gym. The behaviour was horrible regardless of where he would come from. I was there for exercise rather than picking up a fight. That’s why I didn’t confront with this guy straightaway (towards the end I did tell him off but he was still being rude). I flagged to the management on the first day it happened and also told them there was a witness who had watched the whole behaviour. But the management didn’t do anything about it and this person kept being rude till I quit the gym. Another incident happened was that a lady was using the swimming pool while the pool was busy and full. I jumped into her lane. All lanes are supposed to be shared. But this lady got pissed off and all over the shop. She kept asking me why I didn’t pick other people’s lane. However, the lane she was in was a fast lane and I was a fast swimmer while she was walking in that lane. I think it would be very reasonable that I used and shared that lane. I’ve raised this with the management too. It’s a nice gym I gotta admit that but a bad apple spoils the bunch and the management didn’t think this was an issue and correct their rude unacceptable behaviours. Just opposite to what they are trying to promote for. In the end, I got very disappointed and left the gym once the contract had been expired which turned out a good decision at this stage.
Fantastic experience: Next Gen is my home away from home. A great spot to just relax and unwind. My boxing sessions with Tony one of my weekly highlights, most intense session of my week. The customer service, particularly from Patricia always exceptional and efficient. Gabbi and Maria in the cafe, truly a dream team; viabrant and a genuine sense of care for the members. Fantastic experience: I have definitely seen and felt a change over the past few months at Next Gen. The staff are super friendly, engaging and welcoming. Being a new mum the childcare facilities were important to me and I felt really comfortable leaving my little one in the staffs care. The cleanliness of the facilitiy is great also and the classes are super accomodating (returning to fitness after a bub can be daunting, the instructors were great) I definitely recommend this place as a destination to check out and make it your new fitness home!

Negative experience: One of the receptionists is really rude. We are there for tennis class and trying to use the car park. She stopped us and said it is for member only. That’s fine. We moved out. Then I heard she said”I’m here today to kick all tennis cars out!” I did talked to one of your team for membership couple of weeks ago. Now I will not be interested any more as you are trying to kick us out.
Fantastic experience: I’ve been to a lot of gyms in the past, but having Brett there is one of the best parts of Next Gen. As a duty manager, he goes above and beyond every single time. Whether it’s greeting members with a friendly smile, keeping the place running smoothly, or jumping in to help with anything that needs doing, he’s always switched on and genuinely cares about the customers who walk through the doors. You can tell that he takes pride in his job. The gym always feels clean, safe, and well-organised when he’s on shift, and he’s the kind of guy who remembers your name and makes everyone feel welcome no matter what. It’s rare to find someone who’s not only professional and reliable, but also super approachable and down to earth. Brett helps create a positive vibe that keeps people coming back. Huge credit to him for the great culture within the gym.

Positive experience: I have read other reviews and yes there is always some maintenance and cleaning of areas needed and there are members who you would not share your house with as they have gross habits/behaviour. Maybe Next Gen management can remind members about acceptable behaviour. I do not want to be paying for the experience of towels left anywhere, wet toilet seats and floor, cars parked blocking others and all the other things mentioned in other reviews. The reception staff are welcoming and I feel like more than a membership number. I love the exercise options. Luke has been the instructor whose classes I have attended the most. He knows how to make us all work hard for our fitness goals but with a laugh too. He is a great guy. I have attended other classes too and am happy with the instructors. The cafe staff are friendly and their service is professional even when they are understaffed. In my opinion the price of the meals was increased too much and are expensive but that is not a reflection of the cafe staff. There are also less expensive food options like wraps and muffins. I want to share space with kind, respectful and nice people and there are many staff and members at Next Gen for me to be with. There is room for improvement though and that is fine. What is not fine is we write reviews, improve Next Gen's rating and nothing gets done.

Fantastic experience: My husband Vittorio (Vic) goes to the Cafe almost every day for lunch. He always gets greeted with warm friendly smiles by all the staff. Maria and Gabriella greet him with "Good Morning Vittorio" which makes him feel welcome and puts a smile on his face. He also loves the food they make. On days when he doesn't feel like going to the gym he'll go to the Cafe for the food and a friendly smile and then stay for a workout. It's a great motivator. Congratulations Next Gen for employing wonderful, friendly and hard working staff in the Cafe.

Positive experience: Overall the gym is satisfactory, however the staff on the floor could be more welcoming and engaging. The wet areas do struggle to maintain their promise and do need greater continuous attention. These spaces cannot be a set and forget. The stand out is the ‘Club’. Negative experience: Very long term member of this gym and as many have highlighted here and on a daily basis at the gym itself the high standards that were always evident have become almost non existent at present. That aside….. It is very concerning that there has been a noticeable trend of gym staff not staffing the gym floor correctly. Recently i witnessed the gym floor being unstaffed for well over an hour. I went to search.for a staff member as next to me were two young girls under the age of fourteen playing around with the treadmill display buttons and sticking their fingers in the actual belt. The girls had no parent(s)with them and should not have been allowed on the gym floor due to age restrictions. I reported this matter to the on duty manager (Saturday 14 September 2024). In addition there seems to be a tendency by gym floor staff to have long conversations with other colleagues or friends without properly observing what is going on around them on the gym floor. what’s is worse is that several of them are watching what’s on their mobile phones rather than paying attention to gym members and the use of equipment. These issues are serious on a number of levels least of which are Health and Safety requirements and Regulations. in addition to legal matters of duty of care to members should there be an accident or medical episode involving a member. Staff on the gym floor should remain vigilant and attentive for the benefit of all members using equipment on the gym floor whether that be staffing the desk area or walking around the gym floor areas and observing what is going on. In essence doing the job they are trained and payed for . Senior management should be aware of these observations and take responsibility and the necessary action to rectify the matters raised before any unfortunate incident occurs.

Negative experience: Caveats first- Two people earn 5 stars Trainer Luke Christensen Acting GM - Tom Standen Next Gen Health Club- 2 stars as on 11/9/2024 I’ve been a member for many years now and am witness to its fall from a near 5 star gym to any other gym in town, perhaps worse than many. Issues at this gym have been growing and no attention paid to customer feedback and dissatisfaction nor to complaints. Many machines are faulty, have broken parts, or are simply out of order. Handle grips are worn out or missing, youtube does not load and if it loads does not stream anything. Cleanliness standards are a huge issue in female change rooms and toilets, the hygiene is concerning. The locker situation is frustrating too. They were supposed to be switched to combination locks, but only some of them were changed and the rest are still the same. Another key issue is the air conditioning in the spin studio. It becomes a sauna in summer and the fans provided don’t help much. I have been having bad experience with a personal trainer Josh who has cancelled my PT sessions numerous times without bothering to inform or even replying to my text messages seeking confirmation. The lack of communication for what is marketed as a "5-star" gym is shocking. That said he is a good trainer as in technical skills and technical knowledge. I would give 5 stars to Trainer Luke Christensen- he is highly professional, is skilled, always happy and polite, and provides excellent service. He is a good communicator and is proactive in his approach. A couple of months ago, Tom Standen -5 Stars- came as Acting GM like a breadth of fresh air. He actually listened to gym members. If you have any problems or complaints talk to him. He has started fixing things such as cleanliness and order on gym floor, changed fans in the spin studio and has said he will get air con problem solved too. Took up my written complaint lodged more than a month before he joined and made sure the issue was resolved. 5 Stars and kudos to him for his efforts and I hope he solves all problems and brings the gym back to its glory before he leaves. In sum, overall, the gym is far from living up to its reputation, very much needing a major upgrade and a lot of members are talking about it. This place has so much potential but has been overdue for a massive renovation more than a decade ago. Most expensive gym in SA and most poorly managed. Wonder if managers have been getting bonuses or KPIs designed for not spending even at the cost of customer dissatisfaction and inconvenience- which is a dumb policy.

Negative experience: Very disappointing. The Personal trainer I won’t say who. Cancelled on us twice. They also cancelled on us and didn’t bother to call. The Bodyscan machine didn’t work. And no one knew about it. We were made to feel like it was somehow our fault. The sarcastic PT told us. Well why don’t you just work out. Fml ♀️ I couldn’t believe it. I’ve worked in medical field for years. When training someone or working in a gym. You need to be polite and realise people are there not just for the physical health. But mental health also. We haven’t had a chance to work out as we want to start our way with booking in the scan. The the personalised program. So we can work out with a plan. To be told ohh sorry had no idea. And why don’t we just work out. That comment was soo condescending. The reception staff booked our body scans over the phone also. Which meant they knew it wasn’t working and still booked us. Or they didn’t know and booked us. I am soo upset. I just want to start the gym with my mate. And we keep getting cancelled. When we joined it was soo rushed. The only good people here are David and Jamie. They care. I feel the lack of communication is absolutely ridiculous for a 5 star gym. Change this mindset. I miss people who care. Seems like they just want to look the part.

Negative experience: This is the 4th week in a row the outdoor swimming pool is freezing cold. The website says this is a heated swimming pool. It doesn't say that, when the heating breaks down, letting the members know and fixing it aren't a priority. Mind you, the heater broke down about 3 months ago. We had to wait for about 2 weeks to be fixed, pretty hard to believe it is broken again. It is obvious no one is looking after it. The pool covers were so old and shredded, last winter only one was used to cover the pool at night. Instead of ordering new ones at the end of summer, they waited to mid July 2024 to chuck the old ones in the bin and order new ones. They are probably going to arrive in spring. This is incompetence we can all see.
